“But she’s my friend,” Nut whimpers, holding on to his knapsack with his furred brown fingers. A grass hopper leaps out and jumps away.
“We don’t make friends with fliers! Or other animals!” Poppa replies sharply.
“But we make friends with cows,” Nut argues.
“Cows give us milk and butter and cream,” Poppa responds.
“So we only make friends with critters that give us stuff…”
Poppa shakes his head.
Momma smiles, “He has us there…”
